Old City, Nueva Segovia

In the year 1611, the first transfer of "Nueva Ciudad de Segovia" took place to the Arrayán Valley, known today as "Ciudad Antigua". This territory was inhabited by the Xicaques Indians. Ciudad Antigua was the capital of the northern part of Nicaragua for several years, being a prosperous commercial city from where the surrounding area was administered. That also led to it being a highly coveted city and being plundered on several occasions by pirates. 💡Curiosities. In the year 1654 it was attacked by one of the most renowned English pirates of the time, the famous Henry Morgan. In the park there is a reproduction of a pirate ship as a historical reminder of one of the episodes that lived this municipality.
